After getting my fill of plumbing education, I was wandering around and doing some shopping. I had actually been on a quest to find Beatrice some peanut butter, since that isn't something that is common in South America. I had recalled her saying it was one of the things she missed after being on the road so long in South America, and those who know me know that I am a girl who likes a good quest. I did actually manage to find some! It turns out that it is actually made in Argentina because foreigners kept asking for it. They add a noticeable amount of sugar to it, which is an interesting twist. Be on the lookout for mantequilla de manĂ if you find yourself in a similar bind in South America. I believe in Argentina, it was actually "manteca de manĂ", though I failed to take a picture of the jar so I can't be sure. I later stumbled upon some "real" imported stuff from Canada, but that was pretty expensive (more than $5US, as I recall) so I didn't buy it.

But I digress! Coto is the largest supermarket/general store I found in Buenos Aires. It is called a "hipermarket" in Buenos Aires--like a Tesco or Carrefour in Europe. It was fun to wander up and down the aisles. My favorite thing about the supermarket was that they literally had a whole row dedicated to dulce de leche. Different brands, different size jars. It was a pretty impressive sight! I would have taken a picture but my camera was in a locker at the front of the store.
